My Travels in Georgia By Brenda Ludwig ( Ambassadors from Canada) I came to Georgia with the Friendship Force. We were hosted by the Friendship Force of Georgia in Tbilisi. Tbilisi is a city of contrasts: from the Sioni Cathedral to Sameba; from the .Baratashvili Bridge to the Bridge of Peace over the Kura River; from shopping in stores selling clothing for 5 lari to the Versace store. There is much construction throughout the city. I found influences of American culture with a few McDonald’s restaurants, an Elvis Presley store, other European stores and hotel chains such as Holiday Inn, Sheraton, Radisson and Marriott. Tbilisi seems to have retained its Georgian heritage in spite of these influences. The city comes to life with its display of beautiful lights after the sun sets.
